Issa Kaburagi is a second-year student at Sohoku High School and a member of the Sohoku High Bicycle Racing Club. He is known for being part of the famous Team Speed Shot from Chiba and joining the club during storyline's second year with the intent of becoming the best cyclist there.
Appearance[]
Issa has an orange colored hair. His center-parted hair is neck length, and flares out in spikes at the ends. He originally wears his Team SS jersey left over from middle school, but eventually wears the Sohoku jersey after becoming a regular member. His shoes are usually the same ones from the Team SS that he wears since the day he joined the club.
Personality[]
Issa appears to be pretty conceited, as he calls himself a genius and proclaims that he will surpass his seniors, but he respects those whom he considers formidable opponents. He cares a lot about his childhood friend Ryuhou Danchiku, and attributes much of his success to his friend. Issa has also been portrayed as air-headed on numerous occasions, such as believing in the "God of Orange Beena" (a parody of Orangina) left him notes about how to improve his cycling. He also refuses to acknowledge that he is more suited to be a sprinter than an all-rounder.
He actually has poor mentality, as the youngest in the family, he could get what he wanted by nagging and making others yield to him, much unlike Ryuhou, who is the oldest in the family and is more steadfast. Sometimes his thoughts can also be childish, by not accepting foods from girls, when it was Miki Kanzaki that brought food before training camp.[1]
Issa can be arrogant sometimes with the people he does not have a proximity, regardless of whether they are your seniors or juniors. Depending of the situation, he can even nickname them with inappropriately. When he notices he is in the wrong, he does his best to compensate for his mistakes and tries to help the person or the group as a whole with everything he is capable of. He also may acquire a respect for the person depending of the relationship he develops with them.
Skills and Techniques[]
Issa has a relationship with Ryuhou similar to Hajime's relationship with Junta Teshima, and they ride as a duo. Beyond that, he's a skilled sprinter with a will to win but has a little self-awareness. With the help of others his skills as a sprinter blossom, whether he believes that he's helping a teammate or is trying to impress a ghost. An off-set ability is that he is a better puller than a follower, as proven by him pulling Hajime, who is supposed to drop back and save him, but was pulled instead on the climb.
He also developed a two-stage acceleration, briefly giving up the chase before jumping in front to make opponents loosen the block. The move itself is also useful when you want to throw off the timing of the opponent's bump, especially when they are aggressive or physically stronger. In order to achieve his a stronger acceleration, Issa imagines gears on his mind, who slowly engage with each other. At the moment they finally engage, Issa unleashes his full-power acceleration, where he rides at maximum speed till he runs out of energy.

- The name Issa means "one" (一) (is) and "difference, variation" (差) (sa).
- Issa's surname Kaburagi means "arrowhead" (鏑) (kabura) and "tree, wood" (木) (ki/gi).

- Issa refered to Hajime without an honorific because he looked down on him. He started to refer to him with honorific after he relized he was saved by Hajime and started to respect his senior.
- Issa's hair is dyed. He dyed his hair to stand out, and to show his appeal in biking.
- His worst subject is English, as he had no idea what "go to hell" meant when he told Shunsuke Imaizumi to do so during the 42nd Summer Inter High. He explains later that he wants him to go to the depth of flames, then rise up from the ashes like a phoenix.
